I recently went to the hospital ED with a swollen left knee and pain. The knee started to swell 2 day ago. I had no trauma. The doctor just ordered some x-rays and discharged me with pain pills. Is this okay?
First in any person with a swollen knee and pain, the one diagnosis to be ruled out is an infection. Without aspirating the joint, the doctor has no way of knowing what is happening in your joint. Plain x-rays are useless. I highly suggest you see another doctor and get the fluid aspirated from your knee to determine what is going on. Then I suggest you get the medical records. If this turns out to be infectious, sue the crap out of this doctor--this is considered gross negligence. Septic arthritis can permanently damage your knee very rapidly.
