Asthma and surgery

I have asthma and am going to be undergoing bowel surgery. Will I be okay?
In general, if you have asthma, your surgeon will refer you to a lung doctor to optimize your condition.  So make sure this visit occurs prior to surgery. In most cases, surgery is only done after the asthma is stabilized. During surgery, the anesthesiologist will monitor you. Once on the floor, you will be seen by the lung doctor and I doubt there will be a problem. Looking after asthma patients who undergo surgery is now routine. However, F..k ups occur all the time because of lazy or clueless healthcare professionals. So choose your doctor well.
